What people are saying

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Oh the fan! I've had this monitor for two weeks now and the fan is killing me with its squealing. It is such a let down since the actual monitor is great. The extra size of this compared to my old 34" one make a big difference and I don't feel like the monitor is too short and too wide anymore. High update frequency works great both in semi casual gaming like mine and doesn't cause any issues during regular office work but rather adds a nice snappy feel to things. The few usb ports and lack of hiding of cables and ports isn't great but isn't a big deal at the same time. If it wasn't for the fan I would give it 5 out of 5 but now it is barely a 2.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overall Great Experience Waited a long time for this monitor become available to the masses but once I got my hands on this it was worth the wait. The size, clarity, color are amazing. The gaming experience is great for games that natively support the resolution. There are a lot of good community fixes for those that don’t. Pros: Quality - I felt the build quality of this monitor to be a plus, the chassis is nice and well vented. Only drawback is where you plug in the cables makes it harder to wall mount. Though I have mine on a VESA monitor arm. -GSync – Smooth game play with GSync, no irritating monitor flickering you get on a lot of VRR Monitors. Using Fast refresh seems best option for performance vs quality. -Color - what you would expect from a high quality IPS display. Good brightness compared to old IPS displays. -VESA mounting was simple. -Overall Joy of use - Every time I fire up a game with this monitor I'm just thrilled with all the screen real-estate and pure beauty and immersion of the display. Cons: -HDR - as many have stated this is very limited with HDR400 and Global Dimming only. I will say it is better though than the Samsung CHG70 32" I had before this. Overall in games that support it, I would turn it on because it does make "most" of these games look better overall. I didn't buy this for the HDR though, I'll wait until reasonably priced IPS displays with MicroLED and Ultrawide format come around before worrying about HDR on my PC. -Software - LG Onscreen Control software (4.7 as of this review) seems to be lagging behind on supporting all the features on this monitor. Hopefully it will get updated to fully support this monitor. - Warranty - LG monitors seem to have a 1 year only warranty. This is not on par with most other companies monitor warranties of 3 years. Once you register your monitor you can extend this to 3 total years for a cost of about $75 at least. -Cost - Because of the GSync chip the price on this seems rather high, will be interesting to see how they price their newly announced Freesync/GSync compatible version of this monitor to compare. Even with that list of Cons I have to overall give this monitor a 4.5 though on the website I can only do 4 or 5 I rounded up to be fair. It is well worth having if you have the income to support the purchase.

Does LG 38GL950G have a fan ?

Asked by: Hansworst
I own this LG monitor for 2 weeks now and it definately has a fan. I can clearly hear it when I am doing emailing, office work, etc. During gaming it is not hearable (...at least for me). The fan is definately more quite than the fan of the PG35VQ that I tried a few month ago. But if you get constantly disstracted by fans and you want your room to be totaly silent this monitor might be not for you.

Regrettably, we do not sell the monitor directly and it is sold through our retail partners. Inventory for the monitor is proprietary information that only the retailers can give you and you would need to contact them to inquire if they are expecting further deliveries for the monitor and what the estimated time for delivery might be.

what is the maximum refresh rate @8bit with full chroma (4:4:4) ? does it use CVT-R2 blanking times for the audio signal or it is 175Hz capable @8bit, full chroma ?

Asked by: johny_bravo
DisplayPort 1.4 is technically limited to a maximum of about 160hz @ 8 bit at 3840x1600 without chroma subsampling. LinusTechTips has already shown that if u want to run it at 175Hz then chroma subsampling will be used.
